Douglas Newhouse and Jeremy Wilmot’s crew are proclaimed world class champions having led from Day 1 The prizegiving ceremony, at 18:30h, is a special finishing touch for the competition, which awards the new world champions, and the first placed teams in the Corinthian, One Pro, Women’s, Youth and Mixed divisions and to the first placed boat skippered by a woman.
The American team, led by Douglas Newhouse and Jeremy Wilmot continue leading the championship and increase their advantage by 15 points over the second place. Saturday is the last challenge on the Bay.
Douglas Newhouse and Jeremy Wilmot’s team is holding on at the top of the leaderboard after the discard has been applied, just one point ahead of second-placed Brazilian ‘Mindset’ and five ahead of third, also from the USA, ‘Rowdy’
Douglas Rastrello’s US “Good to go” was the best of this second day of competition and Douglas Newhouse’s “Yonder” holds the lead for the second consecutive day.
This Tuesday, the bay of Palma has witnessed a spectacular start of the event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the J/70 class International Association.
On Monday 16th a training race held in the Bay of Palma, and Tuesday’s official start from 11.30 onwards sees the launch of the competition and the battle for the world title. 96 teams from 25 nationalities will line up for a total of ten races programmed over the five days of competition
On Monday 16th September at 14:30h, the fleet will compete in an official training regatta as a final preparation before the start of the competition.
With the registration and measurement process underway since yesterday, Friday, at the Porto Pi Naval Base, the organising team of the Sandberg Estates J/70 Worlds is working around the clock to get everything ready for the start of the competition.
On Friday 13th September, the Spanish Navy and the Naval Commission for Regattas will begin the arduous and complex process of measuring the entire participating fleet of the Sandberg Estates J/70 Worlds 2024, organized by the Real Club Nautico de Palma (RCNP) from 13th to 22nd September
The Sandberg J/70 Worlds, to be held in Palma from 13th to 22nd September, will be a landmark in the history of sailing world championships; not only due to the extremely high quality of the teams in the most numerous One Design class in the world, but because of the starting procedure system used in each race
The first week of August saw a J/70 fleet of 31 teams, one of the classes competing at the Copa del Rey MAPFRE which served as the precursor to the Sandberg Estates J/70 Worlds. From 14th to 21st September, the Real Club Náutico de Palma will once again be hosting a prime international event with the 2024 World Championships
With under two weeks to go until the registration deadline for the J/70 World Championships (1st June), the competition’s entry list has not only reached the maximum number of entries as established by the organizing committee (99 pre-registered teams), but moreover has a waiting list with an additional thirty teams signed up.
