Yatess A2, offshore regatta with double-handed crew

The third edition of this offshore regatta is organised by the RCNP and will host around 16 boats this weekend.

The lack of crew is the cause for these kind of regattas to become popular. Plenty of social regattas with complete crew and demanding w/l courses have given place to coastal regattas with reduced crew on board in the yacht club regatta calendars.

Other events also requiring a lot of days off from the family also encouraged the RCNP, three years ago to organize these kind of regattas with reduced crew on board. Therefore regattas like: Vuelta a Mallorca A3 and the Regata Yatess A2, have naturally appeared, this last one to be held the 27 and 28 of september) with more than fifteen entered yachts, proves this is a good initiative.

The Yatess A2, is sponsored by the firm that gives the name to the regatta and is a nautical service company. This years course will be one hundred miles with two possibilities: , depending on the weather forecast. The first option is a mark at Porto Colom, to be left by starboard and around Cabrera. The second one will take the fleet around Dragonera, to be left by port, and round Cabrera. In both options the finishing line will be in the bay of Palma. The start for this two handed race is at noon on Saturday.

These regattas demand a good local wind knowledge and know how, to manage the different coasts, as Gaspar Morey, the race officer explains, having to take decisions on the tactics in advance.

The III Regata Yatess A2 will confront one more year the two winners of this circuit: Petrouchka III, owned by Jaime Binimelis (RCNP), winner of the two past editions and Pinyol Vermell, of Félix Comas, with the Club Nàutic S’Arenal burgee. Matías Gil, on board his KS, and Eduardo Horrach, owner of Presto, both experienced sailor in this category are also some of the other favorites for the final triumph.

The fleet will be divided in two classes, ORC 0-2 and ORC 3-4 and the fleet will be provided with a tracking device that will allow us to follow the regatta on the Sailing Control chart available on the club's website: www.rcnp.es
