J One leads the Wally Class at the Gaastra PalmaVela after winning the coastal race

The Portuguese Bigamist leads the Soto40 class.

The wind took its time to develop again today, but after one hour and half postponement, the Race Committee has been able to give starts to all the categories with a Southeasterly wind that increased during the day. The day has been long for the 140 participating boats, but it turned out to be a good racing day.

The Maxis and the Vintage yachts sailed a coastal race of 30 miles rounding Sa Porrasa in front of Magaluf to head back to the bay of Palma where the finishing line was set. The quickest boat to sail the course has been Magic Carpet 3 who took 3 hours and 45 minutes.

The J One of Jean Charles Decaux is leader again in the Wally class after winning the coastal race. Decaux, with his 24-meters boat, adds three first places and is now four points ahead of Open Season owned by Thomas Bscher, and five points ahead the third place of Magic Carpet Cubed of the Scottish owner, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones.

Altair of Boris Gusev still leads in the Maxi class. Virtuelle of Jean Michelle Robert wins the coastal race, pushing them up to the second place. After today’s race Nilaya of Filip Balcaen, has been pulled down to the third place.

The Mini Maxi class is heated up waiting for the last competition day to go at the Gaastra PalmaVela. Jethou of Peter Ogden leads with only half a point advantage on Bellamente of Haup Fauth, who finished sixth today. Followed by Shockwave of George Sakellaris, although Caol llaR of Alex Schaerer won today’s coastal race.

The Soto 40 class finally sailed in the Bay of Palma and completed three good W/L races and Bigamist of Pedro Mendoza leads after the day’s races.

The boats are all very equal and each race has had a different winner: first race won by the Portuguese boat, the second by the English boat Ngoni -driven by Tony Buckingham and with round the world sailors Andrew Cape, Chris Nicholson and Daryl Wislang on board- and the last race by Earlybird of Hendrik Brandis.

The One Design boats, J80, Flying Fifteen and Dragons have sailed three W/L races today and now can discard their worst result.

The J80 has an interesting fight between Pro Rigging and Bufete Frau. Javier Sanz’s boat has added two victories to his compute, which now gives them a small distance over José Carlos Frau who finished second in the first two races of the day. Third is Great Sailing of José María van der Ploeg who won the third race, followed by Gunter of Javier Scherk.

Flying High of Vincent Harris from the Club Náutico Cala Gamba leads in the Flying Fifteen class after winning two races today, followed by Gecko of Michael Clough, and Tro of Emiliano Llinás.

Adair of Marcus Desauois, wins two of the three races today and clearly leads in the Dragon class. After five victories out of six races he is clearly heading for the triumph. Jas of Agustín Roldán is second and Young Tigre of Robert Holthuizen, third.

After three races, Elen Nova of Christian Plump leads in the ORC 1 class, el Comet@ of Lluis Planchar leads in the ORC 2, and the Pulpo Negro of Pedro Gil leads in ORC 3, Cartujano of Joan Salvà keeps his first place in the ORC 4 class.

Long Echo of Barry Sampsom leads in the IRC category due to his consistent sailing and results. The TP52 Provezza 7 of Ergin Imre, wins the two last races and climbs up to the second place, followed by the Norwegian boat, Asiss, owned by Ole Birger.

Marigan of Tim Liesenhoff is first in the Vintage category. This beautiful boat wins another race once more in front of Margarita Estalindalamar of Antón de Llano, and followed by Alopex III of José Echegaray, who is third.

Today was the debut for the Disabled class in the Gaastra PalmaVela who sails in Acces 303. Violeta del Reino from the Club de Vela del Port d’Andratx leads after winning both races today. The second place is for her team mate Jana Mestre, followed by Maxi Rodríguez of the RCN Palma Handisport.

The Lateen Rigged boats also took their debut today and after a coastal race, Ventolina of Jaime Duran leads in the Botes category. None of the Llaut category competitors completed the course correctly.

Tomorrow will be the last racing day of this 10th edition of the Gaastra PalmaVela, where soft wind conditions from the Southeast are expected.
