The team of the RCNP-La Caixa wins with authority at the Copa Balear, first promotional event of the year.
The team of the Real Club Náutico de Palma-OS La Caixa clearly wins in this canoeing first promotional Copa Balear de Promoción de Piragüismo, held in the waters of the harbour of Palma and organised by the RCNP and the Federación Balear de Piragüismo.
The canoeist of the hosting club obtained 1.017 points in front of the second place team from the Real Club Nàutic Port de Pollença who ended up with 681 points, followed by the 461 points obtained by the third qualified, the team of the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni de Portmany.
Athletes from 9 different Balearic clubs competed in this event. 3.000 and 5.000 metres distances have been run in kayak and canoes.
Another competition has been held as well for the younsgters, the first promotional Copa Balear for open water Kayaks, a competition provisionally led by the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni de Portmany, with 179 points, followed by the RCNP-OS La Caixa team with 171 points. And closing the podium, the CV Port d`Andratx, with a total of 113 points.
The hosting club coach, Juan Juan Barceló, RCNP-OS La Caixa, explained that due to the perfect weather and sea conditions, some extrarodinary chronos have been established. Such are the 56 minutes taken by the winner of the senior category, Daniel Sánchez, of the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni de Portmany, or the winners in K2, Alejandro Heridia and Vinca Escandell, of the RCNP.
The competition gathered more than 250 canoeist from the Balearic islands. The prize giving ceremony was held at the Sala Magna of the RCNP after the competition and with a massive assistance from all the competitors and presided by the president of the Canoeing Federación Balear, Juan Salabert.
